The Alajuela province lies in the Central Valley of Costa Rica. It is known for its abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables and hosts the annual National Fruit Festival at the end of March. Farmers are selected to participate in the festival based on the quality of their fruit and their eco- friendly farming techniques. There is music, concerts, food and drink for all to enjoy!

San Orotina and Turubari

We love Orotina. Orotina has a population of 8,550 and lies at an elevation of 750 feet above sea level. It is in a relatively flat section on the west side of the costal mountain range and is approximately 16 miles northeast of the Pacific Ocean and 41 miles from the national capital city of San Jose. With the new highway near completion, travel from Orotina to the Pacific beaches will be significantly easier.

Turubari is a lot of fun. The Turubari Tropical Park is an eco-adventure theme park that offers bird watching, zip lines, canopy tours, hiking and more. On the weekends you can catch a train to Turubari from San Jose. In the center of town, directly across from the church, there is a beautiful park lush with palms and other interesting mature trees. It’s a popular and safe place for people to gather, relax, talk and possibly have a fiesta or concert in the pavilion. (Call to confirm park hours.)

Escazu is only 15 minutes away from the international airport Juan Santamaría, 15 minutes away from San Jose, 5 minutes from Santa Ana and you're right on the brand new toll road to the Central Pacific that will give you access to places likeAtenas and Jaco within an hour drive.

San Antonio de Escazu

San Antonio is the quiet area of Escazu and is located higher up on the mountain, but only a couple of minutes drive from the rest of Escazu. This area is not as developed as the other areas and has a lower density regulated by the zoning as a protection of the mountains. The rural is mixed with the city and you'll find a mixture of large homes and local residences. Most foreigners like living here because of the great views and cooler temperatures. This area does have more rainfall like all properties higher up in the mountains of Costa Rica do.

Guachipelin de Escazu

Guachipelin is the newest and most modern part of Escazu. In Escazu you will find strip malls, hotels, the MultiPlaza shopping mall, the Cima hospital, the PriceSmart, many supermarkets and many new residential.

For all these reasons, those who are looking for a lifestyle much like they had back home, Escazu is popular for those looking for the amenities of home. If you are looking at relocation opportunities, these areas are worth your consideration.
